4th June 1967 – Jimi Hendrix Plays ‘Sgt Pepper’ at the Saville Theatre

On 4th June 1967, Jimi Hendrix headlined an amazing concert at the Saville Theatre in London – which was owned by Brian Epstein.

Jimi began his set by playing ‘Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ – the title track from the Beatles new album, which had only been released four days earlier! Paul McCartney was in the audience and was mightily impressed that Jimi learned his song so quickly. So much so that at nearly every concert Paul gives he tells the story of that night!

Incidentally, also on the bill that day were Procol Harum, who were told that morning that ‘Whiter Shade of Pale’ had reached number one in the UK singles chart, and Denny Lane and the Incredible String Band.

Not a bad gig!
