Happy Birthday Mick Jagger! On 26th July 1984, I was passing by Air Studios in Oxford Street, on the the way to a pub in Carnaby Street. We knew Paul McCartney was probably in the studio, but was surprised to see Mick Jagger go in, followed by Pete Townshend!! We decided not to go to the pub, but stayed at Torino’s cafe, next door to AIR Studios, where they had pavement tables and chairs, and could see all the coming and goings at AIR. We didn’t realise it at the time, but it was Mick’s birthday. He was recording his solo album, ‘She’s The Boss’ at AIR and Pete was guesting on the record. That night though, they were having a party, at which Paul McCartney was at too. During the evening, much food and drink was taken into the studio, and we saw Slade, and Dire Straits (who were recording Brothers in Arms) come out. Finally, very late, Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger and Pete Townshend emerged, looking very ‘merry’, arm in arm, holding each other up (I WISH I had a camera with me!) I got the autographs of Paul and Mick on the same piece of paper, but Pete was too ‘far gone’ to sign :>) Happy days!
