Paul McCartney has been made a ‘Companion of Honour’ in the Queen’s birthday honours list.
Paul said of the news “I’m very happy about this huge honour and with the news coming on my birthday weekend and Father’s Day it makes it colossal!”
The Companion of Honour is a special award granted to those who have made a major contribution to the arts, science, medicine, or government lasting over a long period of time. The members, of which there are 65 at any one time, currently include actress Dame Maggie Smith, Lord Coe, Stephen Hawking, John Major and Desmond Tutu.
The motto of the order is “In action faithful and in honour clear”
The Companion of Honour is a higher award than the Knighthood Paul received 20 years ago.
